what parts make up the air filter?

  • another english question, sorry...
I discovered that there is no airfilter on my schwalbe KR51/1K, i only have a tube ending under the aluminium "blechabdeckung".
I ordered and recieved a "filterabdeckung" and a "luftfilterpatrone" as specified in the attached image, but that doesnt seem to be enough. The "luftfilterpatrone" fits in the "filterabdeckung" but those two don't connect to the tube. Which parts do i need more?

    thanks in advance and greetings

  • good evening,

let me try to speak/write something in english!
long time ago i learned it, so this is a good reason to refresh it!

The other end of the long tube ends in an plastic box, witch calm down the air! Than the air flows through an black rubber box! This box is near by the carburetor!
In these box you can put the "Luftfilterpratone" (thats the original solution for the KR51/2) and its no problem to do this at the KR51/1!

So you don`t need the "Filterabdeckung" and anithing else.
Normaly the "Luftfilterpatrone" is fixed with an big iron-spiral in the plastic-box. But I don`t have one, and it works!

Where did you buy your Schwalbe? In Berlin? Ist interesting to see wehre all over the world the Schwalbe is still running!

Hope you can understand me (for wrong technical word is the translator from http://www.altavista.de the guilty :D )

    with greetings,

  • haha, well the schwalbe is not running at this moment :)), I fell in love with it in berlin but only bought one after getting in belgium again. I actualy bought it in the extreme north of holland, between groningen and the sea. took me a whole day to get it here. I dont know of that many schwalbes in belgium, 2 i heard of. Its also situated in a bit of a legal grey zone here to drive it, nobody realy knows. I am member of the IFA club here in belgium but thats more barcas etc...
Nice that you can all exercise your english now ;) and even more in the future. I never had german in school so its just to messy to write. I can speak it when i'm a bit drunk, or when i have to go to the bakery "zwei kurbiskernbrotchens bitte und ein kinderuberashung" or ordering some fine east german coals "ein halbtonne eierkohle bitte, funfter stock, hintenhaus genau..."
But this talk should be in the smalltalk forum, back to the problem:

    the airfilter
I have a KR51/1K, so i think thats different than some other models. When i ordered my parts i asked what was needed to get a complete airfilter (german friend translated, so no mistake i think) and they said only "Filterabdeckung" and "Luftfilterpatrone". But thats obviously not enough
Is there anybody who can help me to get the other parts since i've never seen them in a online store, the "Filterabdeckung" was allready hard to get.

another related schwalbe newbie guestion: the tube from the airfilter ends in a triangular box, whats the function (wet filter?) ans should i clean or maintain it in some form?

    thanks to all

    greetings from antwerp

  • Cool!
    Nice to read you.:D
    My english is a disaster(catastrophe?).
But- i know a rubberpart you can put direktly to the vergaser(...carburet sais my Book). It looks a litle bit like a T of round endings.
The Base for the vergaser and one open side for the Filter. Some said it would be a Tuningfilter - but i´m not sure if it´s not an old model.... which has been modified by the time..

  • Nobody with a digital camera who can make a picture of the airfilter in a KR51/1K ? That would make a lot clear to me. I'd like to keep things a bit close to the original.
Nobody whants to exchange a new uberwurfmutter for a complete airfilter? :)) :))

    thanks

  • moin
    sorry Mr3s
    I´ve just have a "Überwurfmutter"
but i think there will be a member in the Forum who
can make a Picture of his "ansauganlage"

you must only wait 1,2,3 or a few Minutes

  • Also...

I found a picture on http://www.simsonvertrieb.de that shows the parts of the "ansauganlage" but not how they connect. This image looks totaly like what i have, the airfilter should be on top of a tube. I thinks this is different on a KR51/1K then on other models where the filter is connected straight to the "vergasser"
BUT HOW to mount the filter on the hose is unclear, parts 1 and 2 that I bought should fit on part 8.
What i think is that there should be a part welded inside the front windshield like shown in the second image that apparently is missing in my schwalbe (not the original windshield???)

can somebody confirm and give me a tip on how to connect.

    greetings,
    sherlock homes...

  • I think you´re right.
I´ve a 51/2 and at the windshild are inside some fragments from a fixed part...(sheet metal).
May be it was a shild from a 51/1 bevore....
Cant you make it like in the 51/2-Systems?
Put a "Filterpatrone" in the Metalbox where the rubberpart fits. So we do it.
Part 8 The "Rüssel?" you con put behind the battery where it gets fresh air. Do you need a closed "Aludeckel" to change or a "Filterpatrone" ?
    If You know Oldenburg....

    Original von Mr3s:
another related schwalbe newbie guestion: the tube from the airfilter ends in a triangular box, whats the function (wet filter?) ans should i clean or maintain it in some form?

    Hello Mr3s,

there are three kinds of "Ansauganlage" on KR51-models.
The early version is that rubber t-piece, Icehand mentionend, mounted directly to the carburettor on KR51 with inserted "Ansaugtrichter" and "Luftfilterpatrone" , followed by the KR51/1-version you have, where the airfilter lies in a sheet-metal "Aufnahmeschale", fixed to the "Beinschild" as one can see on your picture 2, don't know, if that is available as separate part. The tube goes from there down to the triangular box, that calms down the air-intake-noise (Ansauggeräuschdämpfer), you should keep it clean and rustfree, any loose rusty particles from inside go straight throug the rubber in-between-box (Zwischenbehälter) into the carb and motor.
Probably forced by this and because they needed place for electric parts there, on KR51/2-models the "Luftfilterpatrone" went into the "Zwischenbehälter", held by a spring, pressing it against the "Ansauggeräuschdämpfer", leaving the tube (part 8) open-ended as you found it.
Unfortunately I cannot take pictures, my DUO-airintake is different, but I hope, things are clearer now?
BTW the "Luftfilterpatrone" is a wet filter, needs regular washout in fuel with subsequent oiling.

    greetings to Antwerp
    Norbert

  • Thanks Iceman for offering me an icecold beer... Norbert, thanks a lot, that was very clear to explain the different types. BUT, i got confused when looking at my schwalbe!
There is no filter on the tube, and there is no connection for it on the "Beinschild" (sounds like KR51/2). There is also no filter inbetween the "Zwischenbehälter" and the "Ansauggeräuschdämpfer" (sounds like a KR51/1 again)

HELP, I dont know which model i have anymore ?(

    -"typenschild" says KR51/1K baujahr 1976
-number on the "getriebe" is 1957382
    -"vergasser" BVF 16N1 5

i think that matches a KR51/1K, but then somebody replaced the "Beinschild" before i owned it.

What i can do now is or go for the KR51/1 solution, trying to find a way to connect the filter to the tube...
    OR
put the filter like in a KR51/2 inside the "Ansauggeräuschdämpfer"

    So whats best?

  • Hey man - I´m not Iceman! That´s another fellow in this (big) group! :)) :)) :))
You should put Your Tube free upside behind the Battery - may be there are two "Nippel" at the "Batteryfach" between those you can fix it a bit.
When you place the"Luftfilter" like we do it at the 51/2-Models - you should be on the save side.
It´s OK and no one will make you any problem from these friendly Policemen!
:bounce: Don´t be afraid and do it! We´ll wait so far if you need help or beer. :))

  • Hi,

I had the same problem than you... the man from
my garage said, that there is no chance to get all
parts for the original assembly...so he gave me 2 hints

first on, as said before...you can fix the filter between
the carburetor and the box (for calming down the air) inside
that rubber-tube (i've done it that way, fixed it with Ducktape)

second possibilite.... take a plastic bottle ..
cut of the upper and that you get some kind of funnel.
put the filter into that "funnel" and put silicon all around,
so that the air have to pass the filter.

fix the small eind of the "self-made funnel-filter" (great word!!!)
at the ending of the tube inside the "beinschild"....
    that shoud do it....

  • GREAT, thanks for all the tips, i was also looking into something like the "self-made funnel-filter" :)) Anyway i have enough options now.
I discovered the online stores from simsonvertrieb and motorradzentrum-berlin which have images with all the parts specified... This helps a lot for me as a visual aid on how parts are named in german and which parts you need, you cant belive how difficult this is. So to all the people assisting me in english, youre help is VERY appreciated. When somebody is in antwerp, we'll have a fine belgian beer...

somebody knows how the tiny little part is named that holds the gasbowdenzug inside the gasdrehgriff for example. The little thing at the end of the cable just broke :))

  • to be more precieze, it sits inside the Schieber f.Gasdrehgriff and is a few mm in size. I think (when looking at the pictures on simsonvertrieb) that the gasdrehgriff is from a KR51/2. Will i get it when i order a new gasbowdenzug?
