New Owner looking for English spec and help

  • Hello I am new to owning a Schwalbe as I wanted a cheap run around here in Berlin
I have owned many bikes in the past in the UK having worked as a motorcycle courier for a long time
plus I am also familiar with taking apart and rebuilding engines as I have done so over the years but my German reading skills is sadly not very good

but my question is where on the internet can I find diagrams of the engine and the spec for it as I know nothing about Schwalbes and wish to maybe do a rebuild over the winter with the possibility of tuning the engine a little maybe as I am not used to such a slow bike

So if some one could point me out some Schwalbe related web links in english that would be great

    Thank you

  • We think, that 50ccm and up to 70 km/h are enough to fly through our cities. There are so many traffic lights in Berlin and you should be conscious, that you are driving with an Oldtimer. Don't hurry. ;)

Wer ander'n eine Grube gräbt, hat ein Grubengrabgerät!

  • Besides that, tuning of 50ccm bikes can get you really severe problems in germany.
Both with the police and with the insurance.
Your Vehicle Type Approval will become void and the insurance will propably refuse to pay if you are involved in an accident.

Simson bikes are classified as mopeds... same as scooters etc.
and we can be happy that there's an exception that they can legally drive 60km/h (and all good maintained Simsons can still top this speed by some km/h; all scooters and mopeds from the year 2002 are only allowed to drive 45km/h)
Simsons were build in the former GDR... and they had other laws regarding the top speed of mopeds.
Well, and so we're also able to drive them without the need for a motorcyle license... a car license is sufficient. :smokin:

As for your question on English websites about Simson and Schwalbe... I really don't know any
There's really good literature about Simsons... but it's all in German.

  • I remember one flic on Youtube where the assembly of the Simson Engine was shown without any commentary, neither German nor English. It was a step by step 3D simulation. (Origin: Poland, I believe.) Only the music was annoying.

  • Hello me again well today I decided to dust of the bike and try to find out what's wrong with it as I put it away for the winter here when I got a problem with the engine not revving or pulling
so took I checked everything to see ie the carburettor the points and the exhaust and all seem to be fine so now I am thinking it something to do with the spark as the compression is fine along with petrol getting into the engine ect
So i changed the 6v coil for one I had and its still not pulling or reving well

    So any ideas please?

Calm down and don't forget that most of our users are no native speakers of your language. So it's hard enough for them to understand English and even harder if there's no proper structure in your text. Remember: You are the one who requests help here - so it's just an expression of politeness to make your texts easy to read. I think, that's all Albi wanted to say.

    best regards

You brought it to the point ;). (I have no idea, if this is an usual sentence in england, but its really funny :D)

  • Hi Nobody,
please don`t loose your temper and try to be nice and polite, like we do.
Albi asked you in a polite way, to make it easier for us to read your text, because he really wanted to help you. And don`t forget, many people in the forum didn`t learn english at school. At the time of DDR, many people learnt russian instead.
So please ask your questions in a way, we can understand and don`t get mad, if someone wants to help. Without understanding the problem, there will be no solution.
